Beergaritas

I’m gonna be honest with you and let you in on a lil’ secret: I’m not a margarita girl.

I hardly ever crave MARGS and I actually hate the way that word sounds. Maybe it’s because my grandmother’s name is Margarita and when you say it in Spanish it’s actually really pleasant-sounding—it means daisy! But the word “Margs” sounds like something a drunk girl on spring break would yell out and it’s just disgusting to me. I’m sorry if I’m being a negative right now! Sometimes I just don’t wake up all positive and on brand. Sowie.

Beergarita

I made these beergaritas, which also has a questionable name, and realized very quickly that their name is totally excusable and that I actually just dislike tequila. And mescal. And cristal. I’m so much fun right now! I like beer more. This is a combo of fresh lime juice, simple syrup and crisp, fresh beer. OMG so good. And that salted rim around the glass is soooo good with it too. Salty, sweet and sour for the absolute win.

Beergarita

If I look back, it makes sense because nothing makes me happier than a spicy Michelada, which is almost like a bloody mary but with beer. UGH. Beer cocktails are all the rage in my heart right now. I hope you give it a go. I hope you make it this Sunday (and next) because they’re heaven.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 13 minutes
Serving Size: 4

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt, for garnish
  • Ice cubes
  • 3/4 cup lime juice, from about 8 limes
  • Lager beer

Directions

  • In a small saucepan, set over medium heat, add the sugar and water. Stir until dissolved and then take off the heat and allow to cool completely.
  • Add a few tablespoons of salt to a shallow plate. Flip over the glasses and dip the rim in the simple syrup and then immediately transfer to the plate of salt. Repeat with the remaining glasses. Next, drop a few ice cubes into each glass; divide the simple syrup and lime juice amongst them. Lastly, top each drink with a healthy amount of beer. Stir and serve.

These look like the perfect way to start the weekend! I am wondering what brand of beer you used to make these? The various lagers differ so greatly, I’d like to know which kind would be best. Oh, and apparently you being grumpy is basically like me on my best day, so no worries, haha. Thanks!

I used the Mexican brand, Pacifico. Mexicans will tell you this is junk probably but I kinda like it. It’s light and mild and perfect for a drink like this.

I love margaritas but every time I see or hear the word “Marg” I want to punch something. It’s like the word “guac.” Just… just say the extra two syllables, you can do it!

I also do not like margaritas. It makes me feel like I hate fun because apparently women are supposed to love to get together and drink margaritas. Beergaritas for the win every time!!

Women are definitely supposed to like margaritas AND cosmopolitans. I don’t like either but beer is my jam so here we go! Haha.

Margaritas remind me of buying margarita mix in college. A beergarita is more up my alley!

I son want to make these this weekend, they look amazing! Can you clarify what do you mean by “divide the simple syrup and lime juice against them”?

    Thanks!

    Hi Adrianna

Would it be safe to say El Caminco and add a shot of Grand Marnier (do not stir just settle on top)….

UGH PREACH. Margs is so ugly and harsh. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who shudders at it.

    You are a genius!
I had this one night with sixteen where I thought the funniest thing in the world is drinking Tequila (licking salt-drinking out of these tiny glasses-biting into a lemon), well you know how this story ends! Tequila is dead for me since that night! I can smell it out of every cocktail from miles and my stomach turns.
So Beergaritas are the answer for me!!!! Thanks to you! Enjoy your weekend!

P.S.: thank god the word MARGS hasn’t come to Germany yet!

Great recipe and the drink is actually very special. Even people from my home country (Czech Republic), who are sceptical about any other drinks but beer, liked your Beergaritas. I pinned the recipe and wish you all the best with your blog.
