Bake these Homemade Dog Treats for your doggie best friend. These dog treats are filled with peanut butter, chicken broth, honey and oats. If you’re looking for a grain-free option, make these Grain-Free Pumpkin Dog Treats.
Remember when I posted my sweet “Meet Amelia“. She’s now a grown up dog that is feisty, full of attitude but SO sweet. She deserves a dog treat. I’ve made her everything from a Grain-Free Dog Cake, a regular Dog Birthday Cake and of course, these Homemade Dog Treats.
Ingredients You’ll Need for Homemade Dog Treats
- Peanut Butter. Is there anything else dogs love more? Definitely not.
- All-purpose flour. I use a mix of all-purpose flour and whole wheat. You can use all AP flour or all whole wheat. Both will work.
- Oats. This adds some good texture. And I love oatmeal in cookies (see my: Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies) so I figured she’d love them too.
- Honey. This adds some good flavor to these dog treats.
- Chicken stock. You can use a homemade chicken stock or store-bought broth or stock.
For the rest of the ingredients, please see the recipe index card below!
How to Make Homemade Dog Treats
- Mix together the peanut butter, honey, oil and chicken broth. We want this to be smooth and cohesive.
- Pour in the flours. Add in the flours and oats. Mix it until it comes to be a dough.
- Flour your work surface. Add the dough to the counter and roll it out until it reaches a 1/4-inch thick.
- Stamp out the cookies. And then transfer them to your prepared baking sheet.
- Re-roll the scraps. And stamp out more cookies.
- Bake the cookies. Let them cool on a cooling rack.
Recipe Tip
- Peanut Butter. Feel free to add a creamy almond butter instead of peanut butter.
- How to Freeze Cookie Dough. Freeze this cookie dough by placing the baking sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes. At the 30 minute-mark, transfer the cookies to a freezer-safe bag and keep in the freezer for up to 6 months. Bake them from frozen.

My puppy would just LOVE these!
I was thinking the samething! I’m certainly not chief “Pierre”, but could these be any easier to make?!? I just hope my Cooper is as inspired & excited by them as I am, LOL!
Brendan–absolutely.
This makes me want to get a dog real soon! Can I put some on layaway until that happens?
Michelle–Puppy ice cream?! What?! That sounds crazy…and amazing!
So fun. I promised my kids that we’d make our new puppy some ice cream, but they’d love this too. Thanks for the recipe.
There’s something about You making these treats that just seems so perfect. For those of you who don’t know Adrianna, she’s quite the character when you get her around a dog. Her love for them makes this blog all too appropriate.
Since I currently only have my kitty nosey, I might have to make them for my boyfriend’s dog. — Who knows — Would be a great Christmas Gift for people with doggies. Don’t have to worry that that gift box of Mixed Popcorn will go stale — A dog Treat is ALWAYS enjoyed! Thanks for the tip!!!
Stacia–dooooo it!
Heather–a farm wedding in Autumn is going to be beautiful!
recently engaged and planning our own wedding for next year — very similar to your plans but in Autumn! so delightful.
cheers,
*heather*
Well, now I’m at a crossroads. I can’t think of a better excuse for a little more bonding time with my doggy. But, she’s getting a little…”voluptuous” or “curvy” as we like to put it. Okay, okay, the bitch knows how to EAT and she’s downright FAT. But what can I say, I’m a sucker for her doggy ways and it’s a dog-eat-treat world. We’re going to throw on our chef hats and give these a try. Maybe throw on the Lifetime channel and eat away together. Great post. Wish I had thought of that petting zoo idea. I wouldve have like to have contained a few of my husband’s family members in there too…
this made me laugh out loud!
Cute comment! It made me chuckle 🙂
Seriously laughing uncontrollably!! My girlfriend just told me… she just made this bitch laugh too
Oh. Sweet.
