This is a story of how I turn three super ugly, sad (do you see what I did below?) bananas into something interesting, comforting and delicious! I went on a short road trip this past weekend and when I returned the three bananas I bought for a healthy granola breakfast had turned into a hideous, dark brownish sight.
I think banana bread is the go-to thing to make when you’re dealing with unattractive, super ripe bananas. This version has a few unexpected yet delicious twists that I’m really into.
The banana bread starts in normal fashion: ugly bananas being mashed up. I added a few splashes of milk, a generous drizzle of honey and a flew glugs of orange blossom water.
Heyyyy! I hope you’re ready because I’m hurling another Kin Community video at you. I hope you don’t mind. Today’s recipe, Oat Blueberry Banana Bread, is kind of a no-brainer. It’s crunchy with a lot of banana-awesomeness inside. In other news, I think–as a community–we need to come up with another word for “moist.”
I know I’ve said this like, a million times before. And, I do sometimes feel like I talk about the same things over and over. You know when you’ve been friends with someone for a long time and they keep repeating the same story over and over, and if you’re nice you keep listening and act like you’ve never heard it before; but if you’re like me, you’re just like, Dude, okay I’ve heard this like a million times–get a new story already!
So, if you’re sick of hearing this, I completely understand and come back tomorrow (or Wednesday), I’m promising cake or empanadas…I can’t decide. But if you’re feeling particularly patient, hear me out. I wanted to describe this banana bread as moist, because, well, it is. (And I do in the video but it was painful for me to do so!) This bread is moist. And it’ll stay that way for daaayys. But OMG do I hate that word. It’s too disgusting of a word to describe something so perfect and delicious, and yet I have no synonym for it. I’m synonym-less.
So, this morning I’m trading this Oat Blueberry Banana Bread for a synonym. Your move…
Ladies. Gents. Children. Toddlers…it’s officially the start. The start of the holiday season.
Are you one of those prepared holiday/early shopper people? I wish I was one of you. I am not. I’m the antithesis.
I’m talking…tree finally goes up a week before Christmas. Gifts ordered two days before Christmas Eve. This, of course, leads to frantic calls to the post office. Passive aggressive conversations with Fedex. Paying a bit more in postage so holiday cards make it on time. Staying up late wrapping. STRESS!
Holiday drama. Lots of it. I think part of me likes it…deep down inside I find it super entertaining. And also, I’m busy working. I dunno. I don’t have time to commit all this time to this holiday, man.
So I wing it. Year after year.
You want to wing the holiday season and still come out successful? I have some professional procrastination tips…
