Salted Caramel Lava Cake

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you’re around someone you really love/like/think is funny today. If not, then I hope you’re around some chocolate, carbs, or better yet, this Salted Caramel Lava Cake.

Lava cakes are the most 90s dessert in the world, pretty sure they were served at restaurants (high and low) during the time I was wearing Doc Martens, listening to Gwen Stefani, watching Singled Out and writing angsty poetry in my bedroom.

This version has a modern twist. There’s a secret salted caramel in the center that oozes out when you cut into it. It’s rich, decadent and so very appropriate for today…and beyond!

Go over to Etsy’s blog for the full recipe! XOXO to you!

Right? I made it a few weeks ago for me and my dude and the batter took like 5 minutes to make. It’s lightening fast. So glad you loved it! And to answer your question, yes. duh.

Uh, I’m pretty sure we were the same person in the 90s, Doc Marten’s, angst, and all. But, let’s be honest, lava cake is still friggin good. I don’t care what anybody says. Although I imagine it’s even better with caramel. Bring on the 90s dessert!

The perfect dessert recipe – serves two. Now I have to make it only so that I won’t have 10 more hanging around calling my name (if that makes any sense).

Seriously, I want to thank the 90’s (and Jean-George?) for this dessert. Molten chocolate cake is my favorite! : )

  • Reply Kaity February 15, 2013 at 11:15 am

Haha I actually made just a regular lava cake last night for the boyfriend, super tasty with some wild strawberry sherbet

O.M.G.! This looks to die for (or die from!) When I go to Chili’s, which is almost never, I always have their molten chocolate cake. It makes life worth living. And this one looks as good or better….be still my heart. Will have to make it.

I just made my own rendition of these lava cakes, and was so surprised how easy they were! I was able to make them on a school night! Needless to say, my mom and I devoured these. Check out my post here:

So my bf is coming to visit me in London so I thought of making these beauties for ‘us’ (note I say US xP ) . Only problem? Finding those salted caramels in time. Any suggestions for substitutes? πŸ™

    • Reply NikitaP March 24, 2013 at 6:35 pm

Oooh and any way of using some Baileys in this recipe?? πŸ˜›

Reply Adrianna March 25, 2013 at 9:29 am

Oh! Hmm…maybe you could add some Bailey’s to the whipped cream and top it off with that?

        • Reply NikitaP March 27, 2013 at 6:19 am

Ooh thanks…. and do you think I could substitute the sea salt caramels for vanilla fudge or any other soft chocolate?

        • Reply NikitaP March 27, 2013 at 6:21 am

Oooh thanks! And do you think I could use Vanilla fudge or any other soft chocolate instead of the caramels? πŸ™‚
