Almond Joy Milkshake

Chocolate, Desserts, Drinks

Hi! It’s Valentine’s Day.

When I had a boy, I was a fan of Valentine’s Day.  I mean…it’s kind of an awesome holiday. Cooking, chocolate, flowers. HELLO! Cuteness everywhere.

But if you don’t have a boy/girl…it can be kind of annoying, right? Annoying. But don’t worry! Adrianna to the rescue, because this milkshake is for the single girl. No boy, no friend, no dog needed. Just halve the recipe. Done and done.

Umm…I have a question: while we’re talking about boys, relationships and wuv, uhh…how do you exactly meet boys? Are people meeting each other on the internet nowadays? Is that what the kids are doing these days? Because that’s just kinda scary. I’m too shy for that business.

I mean, I’d just end up internet stalking the shiz out of them well before going out on a date; learning all sorts of stuff I should not know about a person I don’t actually know.

And then when we’re at dinner he’d tell me about his two sisters, and since I’m a bad liar, I’d shake my head “unknowingly” remembering that trip him and his sisters went on to Costa Rica that I saw on Facebook due to his bad privacy settings. This would happen. Awkward. Ugh! The idea of dating makes me so super sleepy.

That’s why I’ve decided to go out to dinner with Teri (here) to eat one of the best cheeseburgers in LA.  And then I’m gonna come home, put my snowflake pajamas, watch more Breaking Bad (new obsession) and make this milkshake.

Wait, is that depressing? I don’t know anymore.

Anyway, this milkshake has everything that an Almond Joy has: chocolate (ice cream), crushed almonds, shredded coconut, more coconut in the form of milk/cream and regular milk. Amazing! Fun! Cute!

The recipe below calls for this business called cream of coconut (brand: coco lopez), but since I couldn’t find it, I used coconut creamer. Worked juuuust fine. You would make me really  happy if you made this for your best friend, boyfriend, ladyfriend, husband, child or yourself.

By the way, I have a crush on all of you. Have I told you I’m shy?

Okay. Bye.

Recipe by Spike Mendelson via Design Sponge

1 cup milk

1/4-1/2 cup cream of coconut (coco lopez) (I used coconut creamer)

1/2 cup coconut flakes

2 cups creamy chocolate ice cream

1/2 cup crushed almonds

In a food processor put 1/2 cup almonds. process till finely chopped and set aside.

In a blender, pour milk, coconut cream, 1/4 cup of the ground almonds, coconut flakes,  ice cream. Pulse for 1 minute, or until barely combined. Note: If you like your milkshakes, slightly thicker (like I do), I’d recommend going with 1/4 of coconut creamer. And then just play with the consistency a little.

Pour in large glasses and top with a spoonful or two of crushed almonds.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you! This post made me come out after a long time lurking. Your plans are not depressing! As for online dating … totally scary at first, but like anything, it takes practice and you get better at it! Boys are like wild animals … you can’t totally domesticate them and they’re more scared of you than you are of them. But outlawing the google is a good idea : )

It’s probably better that I keep my thoughts about Valentine’s Day to myself, so moving on to the milkshake…

I LOVE that this uses cream of coconut/coconut creamer! What a great way to get more sweet coconut flavor into the mix.

Oh the dating…if you figure all that stuff out, let me know! I have no idea how to do any of it. Even though I am single, I am still loving the Valentine’s Day traditions of red and pink and chocolate.

Oh boy, I love making Almond Joy flavors into different treats – I’ll have to add this to my list! : )

  • Reply Aimee February 14, 2011 at 7:37 am

That looks SO GOOD! I love the flavors of almond joy – and to imagine them cold, creamy, and coming through a straw sounds perfect.

Also…LOL at “bad privacy settings”. It’s a whole new level of acting we have to do now to pretend we don’t know the things we know. 🙂

Awww happy v-day love! This recipe couldn’t be anymore appropriate 🙂

Not depressing at all! A milkshake and a great television show, following burgers out with a friends- now that’s cuteness overload!

    Happy Love day to you!

Well. If you find out how to meet boys PLEASE let me know! Because the online dating thing…even LESS fun than it sounds. Let me tell you.

I will be sitting home as well. Sans cheeseburger. Probably plus this milkshake. Because I need something to cuddle with tonight.

You need to get yourself a cheeseburger, woman. It’s kind of a must.

    okay, I totally love this!

Not depressing! It sounds super awesome to me. And you had me at “creamy chocolate ice cream”. Yes please!

I think the kids are meeting online and it scares me too. But I also think that it is definitely good for shy people but maybe not those prone to internet stalking. I am bad at that too.

I never comment on blogs but I had to about your whole research-before-dating comment. I do this, too! In fact, I just did this to two men yesterday, then decided neither of them sounded as appealing as I’d thought. Facebook stalking is the best! Also, I’ve done the whole internet dating thing and (for me, anyhow) it was just a way for the company (eHarmony) to suck you in and make money from your single status. Hooray for comfy pjs and yummy milkshakes! We single people still need to love ourselves!

Dude, so not depressing! Gotta love yourself before someone else will love ya!

I met my honey at work. (Totally acceptable to date at work in my case). But if I didn’t meet him, I’d be scoping the farmer’s markets for cute boys. Especially right when they open. Picture Old Farmer John bringing his produce to market. He needs help getting those heavy boxes of beets off the truck. So he enlists he 20s-something son. Mmm! I’d eat beets til I peed red to meet him!

Milkshake looks great! And no, your plans aren’t depressing. Some of my best memories were spent with my best girlfriends, without men. And to add, I met my husband on, so I happen to be pro-internet dating 🙂

this milkshake sounds so good! and your V-day plans sound better than mine were, and I do have a boy – a husband in fact, who was sick with the flu and therefore we couldn’t do much of anything for V day. And for the record, we met online (the onion personals), so I am definitely an advocate of that.

Totally not depressing! I made Vday Chocolate Cupcakes with raspberry frosting and chocolate hearts on top (ridiculously cute) and focused on the people in my life that I love. Didn’t even allow my single self to go down that depressing rabbit hole. Hey- I’m glad I don’t have to deal with the crazy ups and downs and expectations that Vday entails when you have a bf. 🙂

Milkshake looks delicious! More importantly though, your post definitely made me laugh out loud. I could have written it 🙂 Sounds like there are quite a few of us who have this internet stalking thing down, and who are having trouble finding quality men! I’m confident the right ones will come along…until then, we have friends and food to keep us company 🙂

  • Reply Erin February 15, 2011 at 7:30 pm

You sweet girl! Of course I lol-ed at your online dating comment- doesn’t the time that we grew up in kind of suck? Since people don’t actually ‘date’ anymore, once you leave college it seems like you’re just sol for a while…lamesauce.
